This time gives us an opportunity to visit with family and friends and do some much needed revamping at the restaurant. This year, Ian and I decided to do an East Coast Canadian adventure. Our yearly Canadian trips allow us to visit the most popular hot spots are fine country has to offer. During the week of January 7th – 14th we will be visiting Halifax, Digby Nova Scotia, Saint John New Brunswick, and P.E.I. We decided to partake in an East Coast Mussel Challenge where vowed to eat mussels EVERYDAY. Our promise to you, all of our valued guests was to bring back with us our favourite mussel recipe, re-create it at the restaurant and give out complimentary P.E.I. mussels for our re-opening celebration on Tuesday January 17th, 18th, and 19th 2012!

Era 67 restaurant owners Ian Thompson and Sarah Valiquette were named winners of this year’s William “Bill” Swinimer Business Leader of the Year award for their contribution to the Orillia community on Tuesday night.

Presented every year, the award honours local business men and woman for continued support developing the local community through business and volunteer partnerships. Thompson and Valiquette won for their involvement with the Terry Fox Foundation, the Downtown Orillia Management Board, Savour Simcoe, the Mariposa Folk Festival, as well as their contributions to many other locally held events. In addition, they support mature students returning to school by sponsoring two Lakehead University Pursuance of Education bursaries.

The other nominees for this year’s award were Mark Goode, The Mortgage Man; Laura Dickson from Harvey’s Restaurant; and Ron Funnell from Sunshine 89.1 Radio.
